Dr. Stone is an absolute treat for people who are into adventure and fiction. It also has a post-apocalyptic element to it. The manga is written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by the South Korean artist Boichi.
From March 2017 to March 2022, it was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump. And as of March 22, the chapters are collected in over twenty five tankōbon volumes. The anime is directed by Shinya Lino and written by Yuichiro Kido.

The story revolves around a 15-year-old scientific genius, Senku Ishigami. He plans to rebuild the whole civilization after humanity was petrified for 3,700 years. He sets up basecamp and figures out the reason behind the event.

Senku Ishigami (石神 千空, Ishigami Senkū)
The protagonist of the story, Senku, is a prodigious teenager who excels in science. He loves astronomy and space. Given his intelligence, he is very straight forward, highly logical, and confident, which makes him appear to be rude and arrogant.
He is also supportive and never belittles anyone who has less knowledge than him. He never lets his personality overshadow his decisions. If he ends up finding something unique, he expresses his excitement in an exaggerated way.
His skills include intelligence, mental resilience, craftmanship, exceptional memory, charisma, and linguistic proficiency. Throughout the story, his main aim is to restore civilization. He reinvents the lost technology and finally discovers a cure for “petrification”.
While fighting Tsukasa, he fakes his own death. While the enemy is still hunting for him, Senku befriends the residents of Ishigami Village. He ends up becoming the chief, after knowing that the villagers consider him a legend. He is also friends with Taiju Oki and Yuzuriha Ogawa.
Senku is slim and lacks physical prowess. He has blonde green brush-like spikes in his hair, and two locks of hair fall on his face. His eyes are a sharp red and have two vertical stone markings. They are symmetrical, diagonal markings above his inner eyebrows.
Taiju Oki (大木 大樹, Ōki Taiju)
Another protagonist of the story and Senku’s best friend, Taiju Oki, has incredible strength and stamina. Senku refers to him as “big oaf” or “musclehead”. His vision aligns with Senku’s and he wants to save the world. His skills and personality are poles apart.
Taiju is outgoing, friendly, and kind. He is determined to finish his work and loves to help people. He occasionally yells loudly and is comparatively calm. He knows how to control his anger and never acts impulsively.
His skills include immense durability, strength, stamina, mental resilience, and bilingualism. He is in love with Yuzuriha and believes in taking care of her. He would do anything to protect her. Along with Yuzuriha, he infiltrated the Tsukasa Empire to keep tabs on the enemy while Senku was faking his death.
Taiju is tall, muscular, and has brown spiky hair. He has two stone markings, one of which starts from his hairline and goes above his left eye. The other one is beneath the right eye.
Yuzuriha Ogawa (小川 杠, Ogawa Yuzuriha)
The female protagonist of the story, who is Senku’s best friend and Taiju’s love interest. Before petrification, Yuzuriha was a high school student and a member of a craft club. She is a kind hearted woman who loves to treat friends and strangers in the same way. She wanted to become a fashion designer.
Her skills include master tailoring and intelligence. She understands Senku’s abilities and tries to support him in every way possible. During the Tsukasa arc, she was willing to sacrifice herself when the enemy held her as a hostage. She just wanted Senku to escape.
She also shares mutual feelings with Taiju but is waiting for him to confess to her. She has brown hair and eyes, along with a slim figure. She has two stone markings that are in the shape of spirals on her shoulder and neck.
As a high-school student, she used to wear a proper uniform. After devitrification, she wears a white cloth dress that has slits on the side. She wears matching shoes as well.
Tsukasa Shishio (獅子王 司, Shishiō Tsukasa)
The primary antagonist of the story, Tsukasa, believes in creating a whole new world without technology. Although he promised Senku and Taiju that he wouldn’t interfere in their “Kingdom of Science” and would resurrect the human population, he ends up being a major obstacle. In order to achieve his goal, Tsukasa forms his own community that consists of strong warriors.
His skills include immense strength, stamina, hand-to-hand combat, swordsmanship, gifted intelligence, enhanced senses, and durability. He rose to fame as “The Strongest Primate High Schooler”. He is so powerful that he can kill a lion with a single punch.
He resents adults because of his past experience with them, which is why he wants to create a world full of young people. He is a tall, muscular young man with brown hair. He usually has a frown on his face and has three stone markings.
Gen Asagiri (あさぎり ゲン (浅霧 幻), Asagiri Gen)
Gen is one of the enemies who turned into an ally of Senku. He was originally revived by Tsukasa for his brilliant mind. Gen was sent to find Senku, after which he was impressed by the Kingdom of Science. He changed sides and ended up becoming one of the Five Wise Commanders.
Tsukasa never wanted to revive Gen because of his personality. He is greedy and only thinks about fulfilling his own desires.
He is a magician and a psychologist and takes immense pride in his work. He has vast knowledge of human psychology and has the ability to stay calm even during dangerous situations.
His skills include being a liar, manipulation, magic, impersonation, and linguistic proficiency. He is slim and slightly taller than Senku.
His hair is split and has two colors. On the left side, he has black and short hair, and on the other side, he has white and long hair. He has baggy eyes with one stone mark running down beneath his left eye.
Hyoga (氷月, Hyōga)
A recurring character, Hyoga was revived by Tsukasa for his excellent spearmanship. He is strong and has the ability to handle 10 attackers at a time. He has an easy going attitude and is usually calm even when things don’t go his way. He is an elitist who believes that humans are classified into two – powerful and weak.
His skills include mastery of spears, intelligence, and strong physical abilities. During the Tsukasa arc, he fought against Senku until he discovered that Gen had rigged the weapons. Soon after, he betrays Tsukasa to team up with Senku.
Little did he know that Senku and Tsukasa would team up to defeat him. He was jailed by the Kingdom of Science, and later, during the “Age of Exploration” arc, Senku took him for additional power.
Hyuga is tall and has short white hair. For unknown reasons, he appears to be squinting most of the time. He wears a black mask to cover his nose and lips because of his depetrification scar. It is shown that he has full lips under the mask.
