Nagasaki’s Dutch Inspired Theme Park to Open Miffy Area, Enhancing Visitor Experience
Theme Park Developments
Huis Ten Bosch Co. is set to launch a new area themed around Miffy, a beloved character created by Dutch artist Dick Bruna.
This amusement park, located in 佐世保, Nagasaki Prefecture, will unveil the “Miffy Wonder Square” on June 21.
This date is particularly significant as it aligns with Miffy’s 70th birthday, marking a special occasion for fans of the character.
The park, with architectural inspiration drawn from The Hague, will be home to two attractions inspired by Miffy’s colorful universe.
Visitors will have the chance to enjoy rides that encompass both aerial and aquatic experiences.
This includes a joyful merry-go-round featuring bright red planes and a sailing experience with themed yachts.
While the specifics regarding the dimensions and financial investment of this new area have not been disclosed, this venture represents the largest financial commitment made by Huis Ten Bosch since its inception in 1992.
The park underwent a transition in ownership in 2022 when it was acquired by the Hong Kong-based investment firm PAG, following difficulties faced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2023, PAG appointed a new president for Huis Ten Bosch, sourced from Oriental Land Co., known for managing the Tokyo Disney Resort.
This change aims to bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to elevate the park’s standing in the competitive amusement industry.
Historically, Huis Ten Bosch has attracted an older demographic, with around 40% of visitors aged 60 and above.
President Kotaro Takamura expressed his commitment to creating facilities that captivate visitors of all ages.
The park’s picturesque European-style landscapes, featuring iconic windmills and tulips, are still a hallmark of its charm.
